Deze keuzehulp is ontwikkeld door J. van Tol-Geerdink (onderzoeker Samen Beslissen), H. Meijer (radiotherapeut), A. van der Heijden (oncologisch uroloog) en H. Westdorp (medisch oncoloog) van het Radboudumc te Nijmegen voor de NVRO, op basis van onderzoek gefinancierd door de SKMS (Stichting Kwaliteitsgelden Medisch Specialisten).
De inhoud is tot stand gekomen in samenwerking met patiënten, urologen, radiotherapeuten, medisch oncologen en gespecialiseerde verpleegkundigen. Ook de patiëntenvereniging Leven met blaas- of nierkanker was actief betrokken. De inhoud is goedgekeurd door de NVRO en de NVU.
De keuzehulp is opgesteld volgens de IPDAS criteria, zonder vermenging van belangen en werd voor het laatst geüpdate in 2023.
De Stichting Makkelijk Lezen heeft de tekst beoordeeld en heeft het keurmerk Gewone Taal toegekend.
